Publisher Brash Sued for Back Pay

Two developers who were previously creating games for publisher Brash, are now suing the firm for pay owed to them after Brash stopped sending out checks roughly two months ago, according to Variety.

7 Studios claims Brash owes $468,000 for the firm's work on a game adaptation of an upcoming Tim Burton film and $113,000 for Six Flags Fun Park (pictured at right). Developer Zootfly is seeking $748,000 for its work on the game adaptation of Fox television show Prison Break.

News of these suits follows hot on the heels of Brash closing its doors last week. Variety's Ben Fritz posits the idea that with so many projects in the works at Brash and the publisher seemingly ceasing payment to all developers for the last two months, more lawsuits aimed at Brash are almost inevitable.

Remember when we found out that Brash Entertainment had stopped paying developers -- you know, a week before the publisher completely folded? Yeah, well, two of those developers have finally come a-knockin'. 7 Studios and Zootfly have both sued Brash in efforts to win back some of the money they're owed. 7 Studios' bill stands at $468,000 for work on 9, an adaptation of an upcoming Tim Burton flick, and $113,000 for Six Flags Fun Park, which 7 Studios CEO Lewis Peterson calls "the best game Brash had produced." Additionally, Zootfly claims it's owed a whopping $748,000 for a Prison Break game.

Meanwhile, in other Brash news, former president Nicholas Longano has popped up as the new co-founder of Music Mogul, a pending virtual world for aspiring musicians. Good to see inane execs are still getting work these days!

Mental note: always pay your developers... though it's not like Brash Entertainment had much choice in the matter. They had to shut down operations last November 14th due to a severe shortage of cash.

You may recall a previous article on how Brash had to drop all of its games save two: Six Flags Fun Park and Saw. The developer of the former, 7 Studios, has chosen to sue Brash to recoup the money they were owed, approximately US 581,000 total for two projects.

Joining them is Zootfly, the developer of Prison Break, a game based on the Fox TV show of the same name. They're claiming US 748,000 in payments owed by Brash.

Given this represents only three of the dozens of games left dangling in the wind by Brash, one can expect more suits in the near future.

Sierra Hands Out Fifteen New Ghostbuster Screens

I am loving all of the cool screens for the upcoming Ghostbusters game from Sierra and Terminal Reality, and the barrage of screens we received today is no exception. This looks like it is going to be a very visually stunning game, therefore lets all cross our fingers that the gameplay will equal the coolness we see in the screens.

Hoping that actor Rick Moranis will join his fellow Ghostbusters alums for the upcoming videogame version? Not gonna happen. He's too rich.

Although Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Aykroyd will reunite for this year's Ghostbusters videogame, their Second City pal Moranis won't reprise his role as dork-turned-Keymaster Louis Tully. "He made so much money off of Honey I Shrunk The Kids that he retired. He just doesn’t want to work anymore," the game's producer told Das Gamer.

So he'll do voice work for the Brother Bear movies, but not this? Sigh.

Terminal Reality has Zootfly to thank for helping to make Ghostbusters a reality

Lady Luck has a way of intervening at the most crucial moments, lending that extra hand that helps us through the tough times. On occasion, even developers are able to bask in her warming glow... just ask Mark Randel, president of Terminal Reality. While his team was nearly nine months into producing a licensed Ghostbusters game of their own (and looking to impress some suits with cash), along comes Zootfly to the rescue:

"What Zootfly did for us, inadvertently, is help sell the concept. When their footage came out, we were close to our green-light meeting, and when the executives saw the reaction from the fans, they immediately knew, 'Hey, Ghostbusters is going to be a big hit - we need to put this game into production.'"

Fortunately for the Terminal Reality team, Lady Luck took the form of Zootfly this time. As for fans who were holding their breath while the game floundered in license purgatory -- they let out a collective sigh, and started breathing again. Let's just hope the finished product looks half as good as that test footage that helped make the game a reality in the first place.
