From the article: ""Resistance 2? received a lot of pre-release hype. The highly-anticipated sequel was quickly labeled a paramount exclusive in the PlayStation 3's 2008 lineup. Though the game has received high praise from most critics, some in the gaming press have voiced their displeasure with the single-player campaign. Garnett Lee unleashed a passionate rant on a recent episode of the 1UP Yours podcast; our very own Lono expressed his displeasure on Episode 63 of The Sarcastic Gamer Podcast.
After digesting numerous opinions, I finally joined the second offensive against the Chimera this past week. My thoughts are after the jump."

The one thing I took away from this NXE introduction video was just how colorful it is. When you consider that this is a system which has Halo and Gears of War as its premier franchises, I feel this to be a misleading representation of the Xbox experience, new or otherwise. Still, that's what NXE is all about, I think ... misleading people.

Anyway, this is the first thing you will see upon booting up the New Xbox Experience ... the first thing that doesn't involve three red lights, anyway. As you can see, it promotes everything that the Xbox 360 is known for -- racing cars, big trees and music that sounds like it's a few notes away from being the Jurassic Park theme.

I can't help but feel that Microsoft is playing to an audience that doesn't exist. It would be like if the writers of Married With Children and Frasier swapped places for a day. The 360 install base is not the right audience for the vibe that MS is trying to give off. I understand that Microsoft wants to coax new people, but those new people have to be there already to see the NXE in the first place, don't they?

Who knows? Perhaps Microsoft's marketing campaign will pay off and we'll suddenly see an influx of trendy Apple fans who will buy into The 'Soft's new "casual" gimmick. Personally, if I were MS, I'd be concentrating on keeping the market I already have before worrying about other people's.

Okay, so CSI: NY the videogame probably isn’t at the top of anyone’s list as a buyable game, but with 11.8 million people tuning into the show each week there has to be some gamer fans out there thinking about it. Well, Ubisoft today let out some news that may make some stop thinking and start buying when it releases on Nov. 18. For the first time in the game series history (yes, there are other CSI games) gamers will actually be able to play as the TV show characters.

Actors from the hit show will be lending their voices and likenesses to the game, so finally we get to play as Lieutenant Dan (aka Gary Sinise). The rest of the gang will be there too, ready to take on five original cases by the writers of the TV series.

CSI: NY will have more accessbile gameplay with improved mechanics for conversations, computer use, blood work and more; and it will be sporting a new graphic novel art style. Players will also be able to control interrogations for the first time, using evidence to catch criminals in a lie. There will also be new mini games like code breaking, facial reconstructuring, triangulating shooter locations and other creepy crime scene stuff.

This week two of our esteemed writers are having a go at Mirror's Edge, and both of them are having mixed feelings. Gasp! There's no time to dawdle though. With seemingly all of the major 2008 releases hitting the shelves within the next month, we're all going to be very, very busy. But, the video game industry waits for no one, so we'd better just get to it. As always, don't forget to share what you're playing in the comments.

Dustin Burg (SuperDunners): I have two big gaming goals this weekend. One being my attempt to reach wave 50 in Gears of War 2's Horde mode on normal difficulty. My second goal is to finish Mirror's Edge and generate a solid opinion on the game. So far, I have mixed feelings. That's about it, Gears 2 and Mirror's Edge.

Xav de Matos (Snypz): "I've spent a good amount of time with Faith in MIrror's Edge. Where do I stand? Well, I don't know. There are some great ideas in the game but I'm seeing missed opportunities everywhere. I'm also spending a good amount of time playing another big, and upcoming, title ... but we can't talk about that right now. Sorry!"

Richard Mitchell (SenseiRAM): I finally wrapped up Silent Hill: Homecoming. I have to admit it was a very good entry in the series. Congrats, Double Helix. Now I'm freed up to really dig into Dead Space, which I'm enjoying, though I have to say that it's only managed to scare me maybe once. Definitely not the psychological brain twisting you get with Silent Hill (thus far anyway). I've been digging the Left 4 Dead demo as well. My only problem with it is that it's way too short. Thankfully that problem goes away when the full retaili version hits next week.

Leaderboards:
Xbox 360 Fanboy Leaderboard
Xbox 360 Fanboy Leaderboard Mk.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the Baseball Writers’ Association of America had chosen San Francisco Giants fireballer Tim Lincecum (that’s LIN-sih-come) as the winner of the 2008 National League Cy Young Award, an honor given annually to the best pitcher in the league. (The Cleveland Indians’ Cliff Lee was announced today as the year’s AL Cy Young winner.) In only his second season, Lincecum went 18-5 with a 2.62 ERA and a major league-best 262 strikeouts, making the NL All-Star team, even though his lowly Giants finished fourth in the NL West at 72-90.

Shortly after the MLB announcement, 2K Sports sent over a press release (after the jump) letting us know that they had picked Lincecum to grace the cover of the next installment in their baseball franchise, Major League Baseball 2K9. You can check out the high-res box art for the various versions of the title (PS3, 360, Wii, PS2, PSP) in the gallery.

Here’s hoping that MLB 2K9 doesn’t suck as much as 2K8 did.

While it might be Launch of the Glitch King (how many writers are hoping and praying they get to use that pun in the next few days?) over on the East Coast, the West Coast launch in Southern California is pretty much going off without a Lich. Er, hitch. While we couldn't get an official head count on the event at Fry's in Anaheim, we did overhear one Blizzard employee telling another that "there are a crap ton of people outside." While that not be a unit of measurement recognized by the U.S. Government, we'll take it.

Check out the highlights from the World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King launch in Anaheim, a mere stone's throw away from the company headquarters in Irvine. More than 100 members of the development team were on hand to sign boxes, people were wearing costumes, schwag was given away ... and they were serving Hot Dog on a Stick. Check out the photos below and the highlights inside.

Gallery: Wrath of the Lich King Launch: Los Angeles

Continue reading Joystiq at the Wrath of the Lich King launch: Southern California

Joystiq at the Wrath of the Lich King launch: Southern California originally appeared on Joystiq on Thu, 13 Nov 2008 09:00:00 EST.
