Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon - 12.01.08

Any "Best of" list is difficult to compile and absolutely guaranteed to court controversy.

In the realm of interactive entertainment, where every player's experience is unique and technology is constantly improving at an astonishing rate, the task is even more perilous.

Yet one game over the last decade has consistently found its way to the top of countless "best ever" lists, a game that this week celebrates its 10th anniversary.

Shigeru Miyamoto's magnum opus The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 is a spellbinding cocktail of wondrous exploration, ingenious puzzles and combat set in a beautiful world.

The convincing environment is populated by a raft of colorful characters, and there is a huge variety of tasks. It's an epic to be savored from the moment Link and his horse first gallop across the screen.

I still adore the game, and as revealed earlier in the year, recently played through it again with my family.

The signed copy pictured above is mine. It was incredibly unprofessional, but I asked the gracious Shigeru Miyamoto to sign it along with another of my favourite games, Super Mario 64, following an interview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2004. It is the only occasion I've felt the lure of philography to be irresistible.

Imagine if Worms was an RTS designed by an artistically-inspired robo-festishist. You’d be in the right kind of ballpark. I’ll understand if you don’t like this game one bit, but you should at least have a look.Related stories:

While I know many of you will be occupied with the slow-walking and steroid-popping Marcus Fenix this weekend, don’t forget you have another chance at the Halo 3 “Vidmaster Challenge: 7 on 7″ achievement today. While I attempt to figure out what playlist I need to play to unlock it, I’ll leave you to captioning an amusingly clever and unique screenshot. You know the drill though, a quick rundown of the previous screenshot is up first.
