Reading Qt3 I was pleased to hear news about Garry’s Mod. It’s been on Steam for two years. And it’s sold… well, take it away, Garry…

The popularity took me and Valve by surprise. As soon as it went on sale the steam servers were temporary knocked out, due to the demand. On the first day it sold 5,729 copies. Wowzer. I kind of expected that it would sell a big number of copies for the first day, then sell very few after that. I was kind of wrong, because over the next 2 years it went on to sell 312,541 copies. Which has totally knocked my socks off.

Gosh. 312,541! Sock-removing success indeed. And success born of a reasonable ten-dollar price and feeding into gamers’ endless desire to move G-man into homosexual trysts for comedy screenshots is the best kind of success. Still available, if you want to be 313,542 or similar. And here’s some things people have made in G-mod from their front page alone. Flying gnomes, etc!

The Singles Collection to be released for Rock Band

On December 9th, Rock Band will release songs from No Doubt’s The Singles Collection. Thirteen tracks will be available for download on the Rock Band website as a full album or single song download.

Whenever Rock Band 2 comes out for the Wii, we are supposed to get nearly all of this back catalog of DLC. Will No Doubt be a part of that catalog? We’ll have to wait and see.

Beyond the jump we have a cracking new character-introduction type trailer for Dawn of War II. It shows off the special abilities of the core units in the space marine chapter, The Blood Ravens. Lots of in-game footage, and some spectacular assault-marine jetpack air-stomps. Getting fairly excited about this game now.

A next Metal Gear is ... apparently being teased by a barren and maddeningly cryptic page on the Kojima Productions website. The internet detectives among you have likely concluded that a green power icon can only signal one thing. (That the game will require electricity!)

Before you folks tear open that wound again, take note that we have no idea when this teaser was posted, what it implies or why Mr. Kojima takes so much sinister pleasure in taunting us. We'll let you know if Konami tells us what comes after that ellipsis. Oh dear, it's not an iPhone game, is it?

Hold yer horses, the patch for Fable 2 ain't out yet. But if it was, the details so far are great as it is. Devs say that progress is coming along nicely, but are still testing and finalizing the patch, so just sit still for just a bit longer.

These are some issues that they've been able to fix so far, but by no means is this list complete:
  • The Ritual/Monk s Quest Fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you ve already hit it, too.
  • Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby after rescuing Charlie, you can now interact with objects
  • Guild Cave chest resolved any issues with previously inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector s Edition, website or Chicken Kickin game. If you ve already hit this bug you should now get your items.
  • The Spire (Pt2) no more issues with ship captain being unresponsive
  • The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) you ll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest (Bloodstone)
  • T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone you ll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests (Bloodstone)
  • Your child - will no longer be chosen as an assassination target
  • Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) will now always have something for sale
  • Additional unspecified fixes

It’s available to buy for seven quid, but you’ll find a review of it and what it’s like beneath the cut. And since this is a games blog, I’m going to keep tight reign on my usual bag of music-critic tricks. That is, I’m going to write-it-not-as-a-wanker. Well, as much not-as-a-wanker as I ever manage.

Earlier in the year we talked about just how good Chronicles Of Riddick was. Astonishingly, the Riddick game to be released next year, Assault On Dark Athena, is not only a complete remake of that original game in Starbreeze’s modern engine, but also its sequel, with a full-length campaign of new man-butchering material. The debut trailer for this delectable double whammy is after the jump. If you’re interested, I’ve written more on my first look at the game in next month’s PC Gamer UK.

(Fans of the original game should see how many scenes from that they recognise in the trailer.)

That Spore kerfuffle earlier in the year sure seems like spilt milk compared to Rockstar’s GTA IV balls-up. The multiple DRM systems have proven to be the least of the troubled port’s problems - seems Kieron was lucky to even get into the thing, never mind that half his graphics were AWOL.

Everyone’s having their own problems, it seems. So, below the cut: a quickie poll to see how many of you lot are having problem with the game. That’s along with more ranting from me, and a list of the many fun Fatal Errors players are running into. I’m a victim of RMN40, which apparently means I need to install XP SP3. Problem is I’m running Vista. Nice!
