My hands can now write ‘E3: The Trailers’ before my brain sends a signal for them to do so. This scares me. I’m going to have to write something really long and self-indulgent next week to compensate for all these blinkin’ videos.

Singularity: the other new game from Raven, and the first time in a near-decade they’re not hooking an FPS onto someone else’s license. But it is, unsurprisingly, an FPS. The trailer (already mentioned in Jim’s post, but figured it was well worth highlighting separately) isn’t giving much away, though if I were to make a knee-jerk judgement - which I do about everything, especially people and types of cheese - I’d say something like ‘FEAR at sea.’ I’m probably waaaaay off, as reportedly it’s got something to do with time-travel. Timeshift at sea, then.

Okay, so you might have to wait until the end of next week (hopefully sooner) to get your hands on the demo of Ninja Gaiden 2, unless you happen to reside in Japan, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a handful of demos available on the Xbox Live Marketplace right now.

A demo of NASCAR 09 includes the new Sprint Driver Challenge as well as two tracks of the game’s 22, which should give you a good idea as to how bored it’s possible to be while playing a videogame.

Today saw the release of a demo for Crash Time, which you’ve probably never heard of. Luckily, that’s why there’s a demo so you can try the game out and determine for yourself whether or not there’s a good reason for that.

And don’t forget about that free Army of Two DLC that was released earlier this week. It’s not a demo, but still, free maps are awesome.

The X3F Week in Review returns once again, chock-full of the latest news and community features (seriously, we checked our chock, and that sucker is full). We've hit our 70th Xbox 360 Fancast, which is pretty amazing. Even more amazing is the awesome Commander Shepard statue we're giving away this week. Perhaps even more awesome than that are the 100 codes for the Bad Company demo that we're giving away. Win a code now and play the demo a full week before it's available to the public. Find this and more in the links below.

Community Stuff:

We know there are going to be enemies of some sort in LittleBigPlanet, but we’ve yet to see them in action or really hear anything about them. They might not be the focal point of the game in the same way they are in a shooter, but still, what gives?

The real reason why we haven’t seen them? Well, they can’t really be seen.

Stephen Totilo from over at MTV learned at a recent perss event that developer Media Molecule isn’t focused on pre-made enemies. What you’ll see in lieu of that are different AI brains with various behaviors, which can then be attached to anything you create in the game. Of course, a lump of wood might not make for much of an enemy, but the potential for truly grand enemies straight out of your nightmares are just a LittleBigPlanet away. (I know that was lame, shatup.)

You can find out some other really interesting details on LBP over at MTV Multiplayer, including how you could design a level to work as a rhythm game and the ability to bestow gifts upon other players.

Remember that free TimeShift DLC that dropped earlier this week? We hope you snapped it up quick, because it looks like it wasn't supposed to be free. It seems some Xbox Live Marketplace ninjas have infiltrated Microsoft HQ and changed the price of "Urban Redual" to 800 MS Points. The other piece of DLC "Futures-Past," however, remains free. We're not quite sure what happened, but it's clear that there was a mix-up somewhere. Whether or not time powers were involved has yet to be confirmed. Whether or not "takesies-backsies" was declared is also unconfirmed at this time.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

TimeShift is one of those games that received adequately favorable reviews from many outlets, but was not considered to be on the same tier as other first-person shooters like CoD4 or Halo 3. One of the things that set it back was its virtual lack of a compelling story and linearity, with the saving grace of the title being the unique ability to manipulate time which the entire game was build around.

Your character’s Beta suit allowed you to slow, pause, rewind, and fast-forward time at your discretion (somehow stopping time and shotgunning a guy in the face just never gets old). If you managed to stick it out through the single-player campaign, you may have decided to take a crack at TimeShift’s multiplayer option as well. It was nice to see that Sierra decided to implement the time-altering abilities into online play. Granted, freezing time against real opponents sounds cheap on the surface, but the time-shifting grenades that create a sort of time bubble helped to balance things out a bit. The option to determine the level of gravity you would be playing in also brought out a different challenge we don’t normally see.

Almost seven months after TimeShift’s release on the Xbox 360, Sierra has launched the Futures-Past Multiplayer Map Pack on Xbox LIVE, free of charge. The DLC has five new maps to choose from that will support your everyday game modes (One-on-One, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch) and also TimeShift’s own King of Time and Meltdown Madness. King of Time has you fighting for an item that makes you resistant to time attacks, and Meltdown Madness is an attack/defend mode where you have to throw chrono grenades at the enemy’s machine to disable it and claim victory. Sierra believes these unique game modes “reveal the future of multiplayer fragging.”

TimeShift was also released on the PS3 last November, but as of right now there’s no word on whether Sierra will spread the DLC love over to Sony’s system.
