Gold Rush PC Game Free Download & Install Guide: Windows XP & Windows Vista (Using Dosbox Emulation)

Note: If you experience difficulty running the game on Windows Vista right click on the Dosbox program and select "Run as administrator".

First Download Gold Rush:

Choose from one of the following sites.

Abandonia : Download : Download Instructions

XTC Abandonware : Download : Download Instructions

Home of the Underdogs : Download : Download Instructions

The House of Games : Download : Download Instructions

Next Download & Install the Emulator Dosbox:

Go To: http://www.dosbox.com > Downloads Tab > Click the Windows version (Under the Dosbox category)

Next: Run the downloaded installer file and install Dosbox on your hard drive in the directory C:\Games\GoldRush. Simply entering this will create these folders for you.

Next: Open the Games folder then the GoldRush folder within it. Locate and right click on the Dosbox config file. Click "open with" & select notepad.

Finally: With the dosbox config file open scroll to the bottom. We are going to place some text below [autoexec]:

Abandonia: For those who downloaded the game from Abandonia copy and paste the following text:

mount c c:\games\goldrush
c:
cd goldrush
sierra

XTC Abandonware: For those who downloaded the game from XTC Abandonware copy and paste the following text:

mount c c:\games\goldrush
c:
sierra

Save and exit the config file when you are finished.

Now Lets Extract The Game File:

First: Right click on the game file you saved to your hard drive and click on "Extract All".

Then: Click the "Next" button when the extractor launches. You will be asked where you would like to save the extracted files, select "C:\Games\GoldRush" . When you're done click "Next" again and the files will begin to extract.

As Good as Gold:

Double click on the Dosbox program in the "C:\Games\GoldRush" folder and the game will launch, have fun!

Sony Needs to Advertise Killzone 2

At times it seems Sony doesn't care much for advertising. It would be lovely if everyone was a hardcore gamer, everyone browsed the Internet for multiple reviews on various games, and that everyone engaged in text battles about their console of choice on forums. The truth is that most "gamers" see a commercial, see about 10 seconds of gameplay footage, and quickly run to their local Wal-Mart to pick up said game.

WiiWare manga releases next month, has English text

Remember Sunsoft's plans to start releasing manga over WiiWare? After several months of hearing diddly-squat, we've finally got confirmation that Princess Ai will be the first title delivered through the service. On January 6, Japanese Wii owners will have access to the first three chapters for 500 Wii points. Subsequent chapters will be released in pairs for 200 points a time. At fifteen chapters long, that means Princess Ai will set you back 1700 points, a pretty competitive price when compared to the paper-based version.

Better still, one of the comic panels released by Sunsoft reveals subtitles in English -- Siliconera speculates that this could mean Sunsoft plans to localize its WiiWare manga viewer in the west. If that goes well, who knows what else could come our way?

Preview Wii Speak Channel and a puppy with these screens

Thanks to the Japanese launch of the Wii Speak Channel, we can now see a bit of a preview of what's coming up for the rest of us (tomorrow in Europe, ??? in North America) in the world of talking at our TVs. Nintendo has opened their Wii Speak Channel page, featuring screenshots of the Channel's features, like the "puppy" feature in the screen above!

Well, actually, it's the photo sharing feature, which allows photos loaded from an SD card to be shown during chat. Also pictured: the Channel's voice message function, which allows players to record voice messages for Wii Friends and send them to the Message Board. This results in a text message on special a Wii Speak Channel background with the note "This message was recorded by your friend using the Wii Speak Channel." We always get an Animal Crossing vibe from special "stationery." If you'd like to see more of this Channel, a video is also available at the Japanese site.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Ultimania guide from Square Enix; a feast for the FF geek

Can you smell it? Dissidia, a mere two weeks away! Christmas couldn't be merrier, if only I lived in Japan and actually knew how to read the language. Argh. Look what surfaced though: thanks to tipster jack_gllghr, we found pics/scans of Square Enix's Dissidia: Final Fantasy Ultimania (alpha) book care of one keiya_taiko.

I'm sure some of you are familiar with the Ultimania series of guidebooks. Resourceful like hell if you want to squeeze as much as you can from Square Enix's games.

The Ultimania guide for Dissidia has your typical line of details: character info, moves, abilities, the lot of them. Of course, gameplay elements are also explained. Take for example that shot with Firion (second pic below).

Judging from the text and screens (and some info from jack_gllghr), this page talks of how to assign skills and attributes (?) to your character. Note the upper-left pic showing six slots, divided to two sections (Land and Air), each getting three attacks (button combos included).

And then there's that pic that's chock full of FF icons from the past (first pic below). Selphie, Boko, Lulu, is that Gilgamesh to the right?, and... the Judges from FFXII. It's the quiz part of the guide: what better way to test an FF geek's knowledge on the series and its many characters! (Woot, I see Namingway from FFIV DS!)

Ah. And I think it's still too early to say "Ooh, I see Vaan, he'll be FFXII's playable!" Nah, they also showed tons of other characters and icons too, and we don't see all of them being playable. It looks like this guide only looks at already revealed characters up to Shantotto.

Keiya says he'll be adding more pics soon enough, as well as some translations. We'll be keeping tabs too, just in case something interesting pops up. We'll point them out as soon as we get word.

NHL 09 (PS3): Souvenir City has expanded to the PlayStation Three and the PlayStation Network. I got a text from Mike D this morning asking if he could take the Day Man online in the PS3 version of NHL 09, and I thought it was a great idea.

DS Homebrew - WordDS v0.3

We've got right here v0.3 for Frezzy's DS homebrew application, WordDS. This release finally allows you to open html files that are created by WordDS.

There are also some bugfixes for this release, and so far, the known bugs are the following:

the editing of more text parts doesn't work
the text size is too small

There are, however, certain limitations that you should know about the new file-opening feature:

I ve reduced the filename length from 16 to 15 characters.
Only the first 15 files are displayed! That depends on the sort for example alphabetic and so on...
Only html files are displayed!
Only files with a filename length of 15 charcters are displayed!
The files must be created by WordDS!

Nonetheless, enjoy this release!

Prince of Persia voice actor recounts survival of Mumbai attacks

Last week, while Americans were celebrating Thanksgiving, a series of ten coordinated terrorist attacks hit Mumbai, India. Over 170 people have been confirmed dead thus far, and nearly 300 were injured in the tragic, brutal acts. One of the individuals lucky enough to escape with his life was Canadian actor Michael Rudder. The Montreal native has done voice work for a number of Ubisoft-published videogames, including Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed, and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, in which he voiced the Dark Prince.

Rudder was having dinner with friends at the Oberoi Hotel when terrorists opened fire, and as he lay in a hospital bed, he related his harrowing ordeal in an exclusive interview with CBC reporter Terry Milewski.
