In a one word response to an unsubstantiated rumor that Electronic Arts is planning to buy Epic Games, Epic's VP Mark Rein told Big Download that the rumor is "rubbish." The rumor began swirling (down the drain, so it would seem) last week, when GameGuru.in reported that word from the "rumor mill" was that EA was planning the buyout in order to acquire the Unreal Engine. Specifically, it would be a chance for the company to get its hands on next Unreal Engine and the Gears of War franchise. According to Rein, it just ain't so.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Indian site GameGuru originated the story, saying “the rumor mill strongly suggests Electronic Arts are seriously contemplating in buying out Epic Games.”
So now you know. Not true.

Well, Joystiq had a good run. Into the ground, perhaps, but a run nonetheless, one characterized by reams of poorly composed text, startlingly accurate self-deprecation and the uncanny ability to be simultaneously biased for and against everything ever. And to think, all we had to do was sit around in our underwear and furiously mash the keyboard with our palms.

As we've proven to be quite adept at this, we've decided to redirect this activity to the very similar career of creating video games. In fact, Microsoft's Careers site has just alerted us to the company's yearning for a "technical and highly talented program manager" in "Microsoft's new Halo Studio." We've played Halo quite a lot, actually, so we're sure our skills will be more than "instrumental in helping to lead the development of the engine that will power future experiences for the next generation of gaming platforms." Right, so Halo 4 for the NextBox 360. Easy.

Alright, so our "expertise with DirectX, Xbox SDK, leading content-creation packages, or other games-related technology, or a track-record in shipping technically challenging entertainment titles" might not be ... there ... and we might not describe ourselves as "highly-motivated self-starters," but ... uh. Maybe this isn't for us after all. We'll just throw together a few reams of poorly composed text about it instead.

[Via Gameguru.
Bradleywint:

Ubisoft has been working on their line of Petz games for a long time, and they have now unveiled yet another addition to the series. It is called Petz Rescue for the Nintendo DS and Wii. The game itself is centred around protecting the wildlife, as well as the earth. Petz Rescue comprises of 3 sub-games.

Petz Rescue Wildlife Vet - Players take on the role of a young vet that must care for animals, as well as discover and treat the causes of animal illnesses.

Petz Rescue Endangered Paradise - Players join a team of environmentalists with the aim of protecting the wild life.

Petz Rescue Ocean Patrol - Players choose between two characters, Mila or Greg, and help in assisting their uncle in saving marine wildlife on an isolated island.

Tony Key of Ubisoft was excited about the expansion and reminded us that the Petz series is the 6th best selling Ubisoft brand and has sold over 13 million units world wide. He also talked about the objectives of the game, which all in all are to teach little children to protect and save wildlife. I firmly agree with his approach because it is important to teach children to care for all the little creatures in their environment and this would be a good medium to use, since kids are very receptive towards games.

All 3 games are set for release on the DS in October 2008. Petz Rescue Wildlife Vet is also set for release on the Nintendo Wii.
