I have a thing for geeks. If a traditionally attractive male model were to walk by me, I wouldn’t even bat an eye. Put a gamer geek anywhere in my general vicinity though and I’d be all over him in no time flat. My husband (who does not share my interests) often kids that one day I will leave him for a Halo obsessed, 1337 speaking, fellow Spartan pr0n fanatic but I have always assured him that would never happen. After watching this video several times over though, my answer may officially be changing. Singing an original Mario Cart-themed love song, this is the absolute sweetest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. It makes me swoon to levels I never knew I could swoon before. Boys, take notes on how it’s done and girls, prepare to fall in love. Just don’t get too attached because I have already called dibs, and not just because of the singing either. He also VACUUMS.

Gears of War 2 Review

Gears of War 2 is the follow-up to the enormously successful pop-n-stop shooter Gears of War. Developed by Epic Games and touted as "Bigger, Badder, and more Badass," Gears of War 2 delivers with the same addictive gameplay and spectacular graphics, but its blemishes are more visible this time around.

Gameplay: 9.5/10

The gameplay really hasn't changed that much since the first time around. You move in and out of cover with the A-button, aim with the left trigger and shoot Locusts with the right trigger. There are some great gameplay additions like the ability to grab a downed opponent and use them as a shield...and the OK chainsaw battles. The more important and necessary tweaks come in the form of giving bullets "stopping-power" which severely hampers shotgun bum rushes and making chainsawers vulnerable during the animation. The main campaign and story is also a lot better but still littered with some ridiculously cliche dialogue.

Graphics: 9.5/10

Unreal Engines still delivers in the graphics department and the animations, characters and levels all look spectacular. If you thought Gears 1 looked good, Gears of War 2 certainly won't disappoint. The multiplayer levels have a fantastic variety of looks, lighting, and color palletes. Unfortunately that doesn't translate to the latter part of the campaign where you spend a majority of your time underground in blase tunnels.

Sound/Music: 9.5/10

The voice acting is really good, but there is still some dialogue that is suspect. All the Locust talk is incredibly well done and the one-liners in multiplayer work well. The sound FX are fantastic. The weapons sound visceral and get your adrenaline pumping. The music is good but is dwarfed by the sounds of combat.

Lasting Appeal: 9/10

Gears of War 2 makes great strides in its multiplayer. It has 15 maps, a much improved spectator mode/camera, and some great new multiplayer modes (specifically Wingman, Submission and the incredibly addictive Horde mode). It also has implemented a matchmaking system...which was incredibly slow at launch and was recently patched...even still it pales in comparison to the matchmaking found in other games. The ranking system is also suspect since my fellow teammates and I have ranked up when we lose and ranked down after a win. There is still a significant host advantage, disconnects, and incredibly laggy multiplayer. Finally, multiplayer is in need of some sort of health bar...the red gear indicator is too subjective and there's nothing more frustrating than getting killed because you judged you and your opponents damage incorrectly.

Average: 93.75%

Tilt: +0.25%

Despite its flaws, Gears of War 2 is still a vastly entertaining experience. Yes it can be frustrating at times. But regardless of how many times you get killed, you never want to put down the controller. When it comes to multiplayer, GoW2 is not nearly as technically capable or refined as Halo 3, but the game itself is still just as fun.

Black Friday Sales

PS3 has (arguably) the strongest lineup of games this holiday by a very wide margin. The software lineup overall is fantastic, and in particular LittleBigPlanet really does have all the makings of the next big thing.

And the hardware is a great buy. The price is more front-loaded than the 360, which is a barrier with gift givers, but it’s actually a better buy once you add in the basics, and gamers are well aware of this.

So how did PS3 sales stack up to the competition this Thanksgiving weekend? Now, this is from a Microsoft press release so some skew is expected, but still:

Retailers reported Xbox 360 console sales over the Black Friday weekend were on pace to beat previous years, outselling the PlayStation 3 by a three-to-one ratio

Xbox 360 continues to have the highest game attach rate of any console at 8.1 games per console.

And, while the full data isn’t available, it’s safe to presume the Wii sold much more hardware than that despite having the weakest game selection of the three systems. It’s almost like game quality and innovation has almost zero bearing on mass market sales.

So what now, fellow PS3 fans? Is it time, as Kent Brockman once asked, to crack each others heads open and feast on the goo inside?

Free Gears of War 2 Premium Theme

For reasons I have not yet figured out, the Gears of War 2 premium “Hope Runs Deep” theme is currently available at no charge via Xbox.com. Featuring panoramic images from their print ad campaign and limited edition art book, this theme costs 250 via the Gears of War 2 Theme Xbox.com main page and 250 via the Xbox Live Marketplace. On its individual Xbox.com page however you can download it for free simply by adding it to your download queue. I tried it just to confirm that it works and sure enough I had the theme patiently waiting for me when I signed into my account. I have no idea if it is temporary or not so if you are a fan of this particular tactical third-person shooter, you may want to jump on this opportunity while it’s available. Not quite as good of a deal, the Gears of War 2: “Bare Your Teeth” theme is obtainable via the same means for 150, which is an 100 discount from the main page and the Marketplace.

Friday Night Fights: Thanksgiving aftermath edition

When we aren't shoving fistfuls of warm, delicious food down our throats, Thanksgiving is easily one of the best days to just relax and play videogames.

The same can be said for Black Friday, unless of course you were brave enough to wake up extra early and fight the crowds for sweet deals, in which case the whole relaxation part gets thrown out of the equation.

Yes, you can get the Wii Speak Channel ticket when you buy a used microphone

It's hard to believe that so much controversy could be stirred up by the Wii Speak Channel. Chances are that, had the shocking Wii Download Ticket scare not happened, none of us would have cared much about it. After a statement from Nintendo that didn't quite answer a Edge finally got a point-blank answer from Nintendo on the subject of the eligibility of owners of used WiiSpeak mics to get Download Tickets. Good news!

"Any consumer who requires a Wii Download Ticket after purchasing a pre-owned Wii Speak Accessory may contact their local Nintendo Customer Services department, where they can request a Wii Download Ticket for the Wii Speak Channel for free."

You can't get the Channel for use with your WiiSpeak on a friend's Wii, and you can't get a Ticket for use with a third-party mic peripheral. But hey! Nintendo isn't nefariously penalizing used sales like we all assumed!

Ever since it was revealed back at E3, WiiSpeak has been the talk (both good and bad) of the town. Check out our hands-on time with the device, as well as the details you may have missed on the WiiSpeak Channel. Plan on picking one up?
