It's a week of twos on the Virtual Console in Japan. SNK Playmore's Metal Slug 2, which Metal Slug fans generally like, and Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, which is fairly polarizing. Some Castlevanians enjoy its RPG elements and day-to-night cycle, while some hate its plodding gameplay and completely inscrutable puzzles. Everyone's right! We suspect that the release of Simon's Quest is timed to coincide with the latest DS Castlevania game, Order of Ecclesia, which came out last week. Or it's timed to coincide roughly with the one-year anniversary of the North American release of Simon's Quest!

Sadly missing from this week's releases is the SuperGrafx Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, which has failed to make its announced October release. Unless Nintendo surprises everyone on Halloween!

Virtual Console releases:
Just one WiiWare game, but it's ... well, okay, it's a cheapo Breakout clone.

How can the Wii have been in stores for two years without a Tetris game? At least Hudson is compensating for the lack of the staple video game with one that is both awesome-looking and cheap. It's being joined on WiiWare by a cheapo darts game and Brain Challenge -- which was actually pretty good on the DS.

On the Virtual Console, a super old sidescroller from Sunsoft that looks like a slowed-down, more awkward Legend of Kage, and a totally cute Taito classic!

One of the best early third-party Wii games was Kororinpa Marble Mania, a game whose cheapo presentation belied a highly addictive marble-rolling mechanic that was perfectly suited to the Wiimote.

Hudson said today that the sequel, Marble Saga: Kororinpa, will be available on Wii in Spring 2009 in the U.S. You should be very happy about this. The sequel will feature 150 levels, four-player multiplayer, online leaderboards, and the ability to download new stages. And, of course, Wii Balance Board support, if that's how you roll*.

Also, it's got an actual, totally unnecessary, story. Check it:

The story takes place with players heading out on a journey with Anthony the Ant as he searches for the Golden Sunflower. By guiding Anthony's marble around the Ant World and searching for items which are valuable to help reach the Golden Sunflower, gamers will help Anthony save his colony.

Pointless! But I guess this is indicative of the fact that they're putting more polish on Kororinpathis time around.

Amazon's use of the Deal of the Day as a venue for offloading Sega Wii games continues, with the sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog air-snowboarding game. New copies of Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity still retail for $30 and more, so it's a bargain at $17.99. Not as much of a bargain as it was at $10.99, but still pretty good. We get enough Sonic Defense Force comments to know that there is an audience for this game! We admit to a bit of curiosity ourselves.

As usual, this deal is for today only, so if you've been waiting to grab a copy of this totally extreme cartoon racing game, slam a Mountain Dew and head over to Amazon!

MMOS X is a bi-weekly column dedicated solely to gaming on the Macintosh natively. "Running Boot Camp or Parallels" is not an option here. This column is for people who want to get the most out of their Mac gaming, as meager as it is.

There aren't a lot of MMOs that fall into the "I've got a few minutes and want to goof around in" category. Second Life to me is one. Sure, we can argue the "Is SL an MMO argument" while we're taking a break from the "Which is better: Mac or PC?" argument. For me, SL is good for that hour I've got to kill because I got to my night class early, or I'm sitting in bed with my laptop and my RSS feeds are up to date. Really, some days I'll play anything to avoid a daily quest.

The gotcha is, when I got my laptop I had a hard time convincing my wife err myself that I needed to blow almost two grand on a laptop. I still don't have too much buyer's regret over my regular Macbook. Games aside, the three apps that do most of my heavy lifting are Twitteriffic, Mail, and Scrivener (these days, it seems like I write more than game). World of WarCraft runs OK on it, but, lordy, does Second Life crawl on it. I'm not sure which gets better FPS: Second Life running on a Macbook, or frozen molasses rolling uphill. Yeah, I know, the integrated video on the 'book isn't supported and that's what I get for running unsupported hardware and I shoud be using a Macbook Pro. Duly noted.

That said, an unscientific study conducted at my school's cafeteria and library, taken randomly on Mondays between 4 and 5 pm shows a heck of a lot more college kids sprung for the cheapo 'books. Second Life could be considered a good game for non-gamers in the way The Sims was considered a good game for people that hated Quake. So, lets take a good, hard look at what's involved with Second Life on Macbooks, what you can do, and what realities your going to face running SL on a non-Pro 'book.

TOKYO -- Let the V-Sports begin!

Even though it's no longer that hard to get your hands on a Wii console in Tokyo, some people might still find it too pricey. And then there are those who only care about the sports games, right? Enter V-Sports, a Wii knockoff now selling in shops in Akihabara for 7980 yen (around $80).

Even more of a bargain is that the console comes with 11 sports games (although I'm not quite sure how Omelette Making Game fits into the sports genre), and as a special right now, they're even throwing in 10 more games. You can also choose between white, blue, and pink versions of the console.

Have a look at a few more photos below, including a close-up of the V-Sports version of tennis, which should look extremely familiar to anyone who's played Wii Sports. The manufacturer's site also includes images for all the games.

While browsing around the internet i found this rather interesting picture (but with hardly any details surrounding it). From what i can gather its another one of china's fake cheapo entertainment systems.

Ever since the original GBA came out, china have been making "copycat" versions but instead of GBA game they use games like PONG, or Mr Game & Watch, or old style LCD Racing games, then when the DS and PSP were released they did the same thing, but in colour - the PSP was called POPSTATION, heck they even made a copy of the N-GAGE and called it N-GAME but had very worse games.

Now few years later a fake or copy of the PSP Phone (which has been rumoured alot recently) has been seen for sale in dodgey shops around china, but instead of being branded a PSP Phone (or popstation mobile) its been branded as the PS3 Game Player, whats more amusing is that it has the shortended PS3 logo and the Japanese SNES Logo all mixed into one.

What is rather cool is that it has a decent button layout, better colour screen, some sort of camera and a rather interesting game that i can only describe as a Street Fighter clone.

As many of you can relate, it’s not always easy getting through a Friday. With nice weather and the weekend in sight, it’s easy sometimes to lose focus. This wasn’t the case for me today. In what hopefully will become a new tradition at Bethesda HQ, today marks the second consecutive Friday where we’ve had masseuses visit the office.

Now that we’re all relaxed, it’s time to sit back and play some games. Let us know what you’ll be playing, and have a great weekend!

Fred Zeleny, Writing Fool: Rondo of Swords on DS – far harder and more complicated than it has any need to be, and yet it’s strangely compelling. And since I’ll be at CMU’s Spring Carnival, I’ll also be playing dozens of cheapo booth games, eating far too much funnel cake, and riding the highly suspect whirl-a-puke! Hooray for Spring!

An interesting, if not all that exciting, release day this Friday - there’s a number of games that we’ve never even heard of,  a potentially intriguing Wii game in Codemasters’ Emergency Mayhem (Crazy Taxi with ambulances and fire engines, basically), and one absolutely brilliant DS title which you all must buy - Square Enix belter The World Ends With You.

Of course, it’s next week when it gets really interesting, with the launch of Wii Fit, which will undoubtedly be absolutely massive. GTA-beater? Probably not, but it’ll be interesting to compare figures when Rockstar’s opus comes out on the 29th.

Hit the jump for the release lists for DS and Wii. And remember to pre-order your copy of The World Ends With You, which - I repeat - is absolutely brilliant.

Not much on the Wii front then. Pop! is a cheapo puzzler not to be confused with the forthcoming WiiWare title from Nnooo (which looks pretty great), and there’s only Emergency Mayhem that’s of any real interest - though that could turn out naff, too. Good to see Mystery Detective 2 finally arriving on these shores on DS - that’s worth picking up if you’re flush, but The World Ends With You is this week’s recommended title.
