First, it was scheduled to come out on the GBA. Then, development moved over to the DS. Last we heard, this game was set for a 2008 release. Oh wait, 2008 is almost over! I’m starting to think that this game is nothing more than vaporware…much like Pirate Battle.

We all knew that Ghostbusters: The Videogame would be hitting every gaming device known to man in June 2009 when the 25th anniversary edition of the movie is released, but when you watch the video posted above, you will wish that it was coming much sooner than June.

Of all the trailers I have seen over the past month or so, this one is the best. Granted, the Riddick trailer posted earlier today was way beyond cool, but this one is the winner hands down in my opinion.

First things first, this is a ‘kettle calling the pot black’ type of post. I know, but that’s the joy of running a one man, type whatever blog. Feel free to skip the post if this somehow raises your blood pressure to unhealthy levels.

With that out of the way, I’m a bit confused on the blind hate for Darkfall. Is a hardcore PvP MMO somehow going to invade your home and steal your children? Does it physically abuse you in the ear? God help us all, something not WoW is entering the MMO space, grab the pitchfork and burn it down.

Most people don’t like PvP, let alone anything close to hardcore PvP, this is not news to anyone. 11 million bigmacs playing WoW clearly shows us that, we get it. Most people enjoy beating neon foozles while wearing power ranger suits, and god forbid ANYTHING gets between them and the foozle loot piñata. Cool for 95%, but not 100%.

Why are all the bigmacs so threatened by a new game, which at best will peak at 100k users? No one is going to force you to play it; you can safely remain in whatever MMO world you enjoy. Repeatedly pointing out that feature x will turn off the majority of users is also not news, the very basis of the game already turned 95% of them away. The game aims for that other 5%, and whether or not it’s a success will depend on their opinion, and not casual gamer Joe’s.

I’m not saying Darkfall is going to be gods gift to MMO PvP, hell I’m not even sure it’s going to be close to playable come release (whenever that happens), but to continue to rail on and on about how this won’t work because WoW does it different, or because Shadowbane failed clearly the only thing MMOs are good for is foozle bashing, is just getting so tired. Do we all really just want to recount our amazing experience beating a script in an instance? You know, the same script Curse already beat months before and released a video showing you how, which your guild leader just followed? Shatter my definition, please.

Darkfall is not going to be the Burger King to McDonalds, it won’t be Taco Bell, or even Red Lobster. It’s that new burger joint on the corner, and odds are, it’s going to fail. But it has a chance to offer you something a bit different than frozen meat and ’secret sauce’, and even if you only get it once a month, it’s worthwhile. Do we really need to burn this place down to make room for another McDonalds?

Have you heard of a game called Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled? I hadn't until Destructoid contributor Adam Dork pointed it out to me in the office this morning.

Black Sigil is a Nintendo DS game to be published by Graffiti Entertainment. Watching the above trailer, it looks like a 16-bit role-playing game, showing some strong similarities to Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. It may not have the polish that these two classics have, but it definitely looks and sounds interesting.

• 30+ hours of game play with tons of side-quests
• Dark secrets and powerful plot twists create an original and intriguing story line
• Strategically customize your 3 person party from up to 8 unique characters

Apparently this has been in the works for awhile now. It was previously called Project Exile, and was in development for the GameBoy Advance. The official Web page says "TBA 2008," but 2008 is almost over.

What do you think of this? Have you heard of this before?

(err, like Penelo - cardboard character, par exellence?) Chances are though, it's a character, seeing as there's one more left that's not yet been revealed.

Takahashi: There were assorted candidates to choose from [in FFXI], like Prishe. We wound up asking the FFXI fans on the staff what character would make them the most happy to see in the game, and they all said "something Tarutaru"! Shantotto wound up being the choice from the Tarutaru available. They're a small target to strike, so balancing their hit detection was a difficult process -- we can't let Shantotto have a unique advantage, so we were messing with her right to the very end.

Nomura: Introducing Shantotto and not one of the FFXI player-characters was one of the surprises we've given people in interviews from the beginning of the project. As for FFXII, just stay tuned for now (laughs). One idea we had was to include an FFXIII character, but having one debut in Dissidia would lock down the image of his or her skills and so forth, perhaps affecting FFXIII in the process. As a result, we couldn't get permission.

Takahashi:There isn't a story mode for the Chaos side, but that doesn't mean the story's weaker for those characters. If you play from the Cosmos side, you'll get to see the Chaos story along the way.

Arakawa: If you're trying to raise all the Chaos characters, I'd recommend waiting until after you complete all the Cosmos characters and see the ending. Exactly why I say this is a secret, but...

Takahashi: You can always use PP to access the Chaos characters early on, but you can use a certain mode after viewing the ending that will make raising them a lot more fun.

Ikeda: The Chaos story events are great, too. Basically, one side wants to destroy the world and the other wants to rule over it, and they have conferences and things.

Arakawa: I'm just happy to see everything work out. It's a relief that we made the 20th anniversary safely.

Takahashi: [The hardest part] was balancing -- not just between characters, but between all 100 levels and the equipment they may be carrying. It took a long time, and there's really no good ending point to it, but I think we're pretty confident about the results.

Yesterday, during the big Atari press conference in London, Infrogames President Phil Harrison mentioned that Atari is planning on future installments of Forgotten Realms games Baldur’s Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter Nights and the racing game Test Drive Unlimited. Being that I am a huge Baldur’s Gate fan, I cannot believe I missed this yesterday, but here it is anyway.

The bad news, at least for fans of any of the above titles, is that none will be released within the next year. However, Harrison did promise that “you will hear more from these but not today, because we’re focused on 2009″. Fine then, dangle the worm out there in front of us, let us bite and then just let us float in the water a bit there Phil. We don’t mind (note the sarcasm).

What else the company may have in store for Neverwinter Nights remains to be seen, because they just released the Storm of Zehir expansion last month. However, the thought of actually getting my hands on another Baldur’s Gate game is what really excites me. The PC games were very fun, and even the console version Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance was loads of fun especially with Drizzt popping in at the end (Interplay, Black Isle Studios)– but I won’t even mention the crappy Dark Alliance 2. Wait, I just did. Yeah, it sucked. Hopefully Atari will not make the same mistakes Vivendi and Black Isle did with that stinker should they decide to revisit the console route with it the series. Unless, of course, Vivendi holds the console rights. I have no idea and don’t really care. I just want another good Baldur’s Gate game.

At any rate, Phil Harrision also mentioned what Eurogamer called an “early-09 pledge” for actual retail releases of Sam & Max: Season Two on PC and Wii (no exact date given), and Ready 2 Rumble: Revolution for Wii in March.

Man, Prince of Persia is gorgeous.

As I explained in a previous post, I was really looking forward to Prince of Persia. Now that Nick’s glowing review is in, my decision to purchase the game has been cemented -- I’m picking PoP over Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet (for now, anyway; I hope to pick up both of those titles at some point down the line).
