GoNintendo End of Day thoughts - Could Mega Man 9 end up on a Nintendo platform?

I don’t know what happened, but something about Saturday just didn’t feel right. Mom Brain said the same thing to me during the evening. I can’t put my finger on it, but I just had an ‘off’ feeling all day. Oh well, at least it was relaxing! I’m sure that Father’s Day will be better. I’ll catch you all in a few hours. Make sure to give your Dad a hug, kiss, and a gift if you’re extra special! Happy Father’s Day to all your Dads, as well as the Dads reading this!

The internet is abuzz concerning the OFLC rating for Mega Man 9. Finally, a new Mega Man that has us fighting ________man and ____________man. I was getting tired of characters like Boomer Kuwanger! The only problem is, we don’t know what platform the game is heading to. The only thing we know so far is that it will be multiplatform. Is there any chance that this new entry in the series could hit a Nintendo platform?

The following discussion is rumor-based. Nothing has been confirmed at this time, other than the existence of Mega Man 9. Some rumors came from this thread.

- The initial rumor stated that Mega Man 9 would be on XBLA and PSN. This rumor came out before the OFLC rating popped up, which lends some credibility to the original rumor.

- The loved/hated Surfergirl claimed awhile back that the Wii would be getting an exclusive Mega Man game. The big problem with this information is that the OFLC listing marks the game as ‘multiplatform’

- Word is that while MM9 will indeed head to PSN and XBLA, Capcom will do a retail version for the Wii. File size limitations on XBLA and PSN are much higher than WiiWare. If MM9 does head to these distribution platforms, WiiWare would be out of the question…with a retail copy being the only hope.

While we have rumors that point to all three consoles, we aren’t hearing anything handheld. Obviously, Mega Man has appeared on the GBA and DS numerous times. Battle Network, Zero, Star Force, ZX, and who knows what’s next. It is very possible that Capcom would want to continue the traditional Mega Man games on a portable platform. Mega Man has seen great succes on the DS, and the platform is very well suited to 2d adventures.

As for getting concrete information on Mega Man 9, E3 is our best bet. Capcom has two unannounced titles that will debut at the show. The chances are, one will be their ’surprising take on a next-gen favorite’ Wii exclusive, and the other will be Mega Man 9. That means we are only a few weeks away from seeing what platform the original Blue Bomber returns to. Will he finally make his next-gen console appearance on 360/PS3/Wii? Will this end up being a DS title…or maybe even PSP?

I can say that I really am ecstatic that the series that started it all is going to see another entry. I will be getting the game no matter where it ends up. Having said that, I just think it would be really cool to see an original NES series return to Nintendo’s latest console.

That leaves plenty of debate for a Wii version of the game.
