I cannot tell you how bitter I was when Banjo Tooie came out, and there was no Stop N Swop feature. I was so excited with the Stop N Swop aspect of Banjo Kazooie, I couldn’t wait for the sequel to be released. This was a time in my life when I traded in all the games I owned…every game I had would go towards purchasing a new one. This was also a time where I held onto Banjo Kazooie all for Stop N Swop purposes.
Well, Stop N Swop was never meant to be. The cartridge switch was taken out of Banjo Tooie, and we never got an explanation as to why. I’m glad to see that I wasn’t the only one truly upset by this. Stephen Totilo had an opportunity last week to ask Rare themselves what happened, and he actually got an answer.
Older versions of the 64 would have allowed 10 seconds to make the cartridge swap, while new ones would only allow 1 second. Nintendo just couldn’t let that happen to gamers, so they had Rare put the kabash on the whole feature. There you have it…Stop N Swop was killed by Nintendo. I am glad to know the answer…but I’m still bitter.
Stop N Swop…never forget
