Recently, Nintendo Japan has upgraded its webpage, dealing with its worldwide popular computer game Wii’s Virtual Console. This strategic move on the part of the company has created conjectures among people on whether it will be expanding its Wii-product offering in the near future!
Kotaku reported, the newly designed website is exhibiting eight consoles, whereas at present only six systems are maintained on the Virtual Console of Wii. These six consoles facilitate the gamers to download classic titles from older console systems such as NES and SNES consoles. Kotaku further anticipates that there will be addition of Master System games to Wii’s Virtual Console.
Shinji Hatano of Nintendo disclosed at the end of November, 2007, that the Kyoto-based company has earned 3.5 billion yen ($33 million) from 7.8 million downloads of Virtual Console. He also remarked,
We’re currently unsure if [the 3.5 billion yen figure] is a lot or low. They’re not bad figures.
Revenues from Virtual Console registered an insignificant share in the company’s total sales figure in the first half of the year, which was 694 billion yen. However, going by the move of revamping its website, it is likely that Nintendo is planning to enlarge its Virtual Console service in the coming year.
