For all those of you bored with Sony’s PSP and Nintendo’s DS Lite, you could head the open source way and get yourself the Pandora handheld gaming console. The Pandora handheld gaming console runs on the Linux open source platform, which means that you can customize this console to your whims and fancies. Coming to the hardware, the Pandora looks more like a tiny UMPC with it’s clamshell form. A 4.3 inch, 16.7 million colors LCD touchscreen handles the game visuals. You can choose from a wide range of game controls that include a QWERTY keypad, dual analog joypads, a D-pad and lest we forget, the A-B-X-Y buttons. Processing power is from an ARM Cortex A8 CPU that runs Linux and to handle game graphics you have the OpenGL 2.0 ES compliant hardware. That is not all, you can indulge in some LAN gaming or even surf the internet as the Pandora has WiFi built into it. Memory expandability is possible with the Pandora coming with dual SDHC slots. The handheld gaming console is nicely rounded off with a TV out function and a high speed USB host. The next couple of months will see Pandora’s development team dish out the developer kit, after which the Pandora is expected to hit stores at a pretty steep $330.
