News of the Odd: Mastiff Gobbles Up Major League Eating Video Game License
2008-02-08 00:20:58 by Shawn Sines in Gaming Today

mle_logo.gifYou can make a video game out of anything. Mastiff announced today that it’s snapped up the Major League Eating (MLE) license.

MLE is the organization behind the July Fourth hot dog-eating contest and other official eating events. Top athletes of this sport like Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese eating phenomenon, and American Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, current champion of the world, have been featured last year on Spike TV.

Major League Eaters arent just elite athletes, says Bill Swartz, Head Woof at Mastiff. They are the people who built America. Or at least the competitive eating part of America. And I am deeply honored that the International Federation of Competitive Eating and Major League Eating choose Mastiff as their exclusive videogame partner.

We knew this sport would lend itself very well to an interactive format, said George Shea of Major League Eating. Mastiff has the stomach and the sense of humor to pull this off.

mle.jpg Major League Eating: The Game will feature twelve different types of food contests and is designed like a fighting game.

MLE: The Game requires players to show brilliant on-screen eating; a mastery of offensive and defensive weapons including burps, belches, and mustard gas; and of course the technical mastery necessary to avoid emptying ones stomach in a vividly colored reversal of fortune.

I did a double take when I read this but it’s the real deal. I actually caught the hot dog eating event last year. It was fascinating in the same way as train wrecks and autopsies hold your attention although you’d like to look away. They should put this out on the Wii with a new Cooking Mama. Players would have to make the food and then eat it.
