PS2: The Perfect Place for Niche Hardcore Games

Recently, I’ve been paying more and more attention to new and recently released PS2 titles. Lo and behold, what article do I run across today but a GameSetWatch piece about the PS2’s second life as a home for niche hardcore games. With the continued popularity of the PS2, “we seem to be seeing SCEA relax its concept approval on casual titles and Japanese niche games alike,” the article writes. I personally have become very interested in last year’s Odin Sphere and Persona 3, as well as the soon to be released Mana Khemia.

Honestly, I’m amazed that the PS2 is still so popular. But I guess that’s what happens when you have a super low price point, dozens of quality titles, and a 100 million+ user base. Some of the other lesser-known games mentioned in the GameSetWatch article are Arcana Heart, Taito Legends 2, King of Fighters XI, and Heavenly Guardian. Everyone benefits from these unlikely U.S. releases. I say, keep ‘em coming.
