Game Break has linked to Boing Boing Theater before, but today, their parody of old Atari-style console games is full of wacky pop culture references: There’s a English voice with wizard-like omniscience taking you through a fake game that’s all blocky and ancient-looking. Occasionally, you’ll go to a modern-ish level where, oddly, Lite Brite and My Little Pony come up to fight you. Then, there’s a level on Pompano Beach– watch out for jellyfish and used needles, says the voice. Finally, your big boss battle is against the giant head of David Bowie, his teeth chomping at you, screaming-skull style. It’s all cute and smart, if not laugh-out-loud funny. After a commercial from Dell, you can watch a video of some artful dude who’s changed Contra to look like something out of a night of raves and Ecstasy back in the early 90s.
