Sony is planning to put up for sale a special version of its PlayStation 3 in Japan from the upcoming 31st January (2008), when the marketing of its computer game named “Devil May Cry 4” commences. This PlayStation 3 console will be available to the people with the related software and a high-resolution computer graphics movie on Blu-ray Disc. It will be priced at $422. There will be two editions of the game obtainable to the gamers: a “ceramic white” type console and a “clear black” type console. There was no announcement from Sony regarding the sale of this package outside Japan.
Since the beginning of the year 2007, Sony’s Playstation 3 has been retaining its 2nd spot consistently behind Nintendo’s Wii. In an attempt to boost the sale of its PlayStation 3, Sony sold 38,123 PlayStation 3 consoles in Japan during the week from 3rd to 9th of December, 2007 (as per Media Create estimates). Media Create also reported that during the same time frame, there were 115,057 Wii consoles sold.
Media Create is a company that deals with point-of-sales system data from many retailers in Japan and utilizes these information for estimating sales figures across the nation. Capcom’s ““Devil May Cry” game will be launched first in Japan and then subsequently in US, Europe and Australia in the month of February next year.
